At Engine 1 Pizza, serving healthy, wood fired pizza in a fast and efficient way is not enough. We have taken every measure to ensure that our gourmet wood fired pizza is good for you and our planet. As much as possible we use certified organic ingredients, which protect your body from harmful pesticides and keeps pollutants away from plants, animals, and waterways. We also buy locally grown ingredients whenever possible.
All of our cleaning products are also environmentally friendly, ensuring that we are not polluting our lakes and streams with chemicals. Listed below are just a few of our most recent green initiatives:
- Biodegradable Plates/Utensils: Break down into simpler compounds leaving no toxins left behind.
- Bio Diesel: A petroleum-free diesel fuel made from vegetable oil or other biomass. We use our cooking grease to convert to fuel for our fire truck.
- Bio Plastic: Disposable products designed to break down without leaching chemicals.
- Composting: Mixing raw used materials in a bin for reuse diverts organic waste from landfills.
- Gray water: Slightly used water that can be reused for purposes like irrigation or cleaning.
- Grease trap: A plumbing device designed to intercept greases and solid waste before they enter the sewage system.
- Green Cleaners: Do not contain harmful chemicals.
- LED’s: Light Emitting Diode, an energy-efficient, longer lasting and less harmful replacement for standard incandescent lights in everyday fixtures.
- Low-flow Water Valves: Pre-rinse valve component allowing water to flow at an increased velocity but using fewer gallons per minute.
- Organic: Foods and livestock grown without conventional pesticides, artificial fertilizers, sewage sludge, antibiotics or growth hormones.
- Photovoltaic (Solar Panels): Technology surrounding the conversion of sunlight into electricity.
- Recycle: Reduce the garbage output going into landfills.
- Water Reclamation: Water can be captured before flowing down the drain and reused for cleaning tasks.
- Yellow grease: Grease recovered directly from fryers to be converted to Bio Diesel.
